Obituary

William A. Gaul, 78, of Newell, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, in Brownsville Hospital. A son of the late William S. and Rose Thieser Gaul, he was born in Gibsonton on July 4, 1925. He was a member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659. Formerly of Fairhope, he had resided in Newell for the past 10 years. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Gaul was retired from the Monessen Southwestern Rai1road of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. Survivors include one son, William A. Gaul Jr. and wife Nancy of Fredericktown, two daughters, Linda Porter and husband Jim of Smithton, Terri Cassin and Larry Fedutes of Newell, seven grandchildren, Sherri Maughan, Lisa Ginter, Meagan Porter, Michael and Artilee Cassin and Joshua and Andrea Gaul, five great-grandchildren, Alexa, Erika and Aliesha Maughan, Dana Jacobs and Michael Cassin Jr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Krepps Gaul, in 1990, one grandson, Jason Davis, in 2001, and one brother, Jack Gaul, in 1991. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., a Golden Rule Member Firm, (724-929-5300), 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be in the funeral home Thursday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Tim McConville, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon, officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
