Obituary

Walter Praskavich, 75, of Cherry Lane, Coal Center, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at 8:12 a.m. at Jefferson Regional Health System, Jefferson Borough. Born Oct. 30, 1926, in North Belle Vernon, he was the son of the late Wassil and Katherine Yodlowsky Praskavich. Mr. Praskavich was a resident of the Mon Valley for the past 45 years, having previously resided in New York. He retired from TWA in 1985, where he worked in the Ramp Service Department. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, Long Branch Grange, and the Perry Township and Fayette City travel clubs. He is survived by his wife, Mary Fundy Praskavich, two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathryn Marie and Ronald Eley of Finleyville, and Angela Jeffers of Upland, Calif., five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Ann Bosetti of Belle Vernon, Eva Mazur of Monessen, Helen and Albert Wujick of Salado, Texas, Nellie and Melvin Tomko of Belle Vernon, and Doris and Melvin Guth of Hobart, Ind., two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Dorothy Praskavich of West Newton and Daniel and Winnie Praskavich of Jamestown, three grandchildren, Karen Risha of State College, Kimberly Duranti of Belle Vernon and Carl Smith Jr. of Pittsburgh, and two great-grandchildren, Alexandra Risha and Jaiden Duranti. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Praskavich. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. John R Cindric, V.F., pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian Parish will pray the Rosary Monday at 3 p.m., and Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 will conduct services Monday evening at 7:30 p.m., both in the funeral home.
