Obituary

Walter Melnick, 81, of Belle Vernon, passed away peacefullyTuesday, November 3, 2015 in Havencrest Nursing Center. A son of the late Wadeck and Mary Bachinski Melnick, he was born in Belle Vernon on August 10, 1934. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, Walter retired in 1997 from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company and had worked for nearly 60 years at the Ferguson Funeral Home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dorothy 'JoAnn' Clark Melnick, one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Bob Carota, one sister, Ruth Marie Melnick, all of Belle Vernon, two brothers-in-law, George Clark and Robert Clark, and his treasured grand dogs, Lexi, Bella, and Blu. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Melnick. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday in the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon. 724-929-5300www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com A blessing service will be in the funeral home at 10 A.M. Friday with Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed in the funeral home at 3 P.M. Thursday led by members of St. Sebastian Parish. The members of the N. Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department will meet in the funeral home at 7 P.M. Thursday to hold services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Puppy Connection Rescue, 1400 S. Main Street Ext., Washington, PA 15301.
