Obituary

Walter Kraynek, 78,of Maple View, Speers,passed away Saturday March 18,2000 in the Southwestern Nursing Center, Pleasant Hills.  Born in Monessen Dec. 21,1921,Mr. Kraynek was a son of the late Wasyl and Antoinette Sokol Kraynek.Mr. Kraynek was a member of St. John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church,Monessen, the Charleroi  American Legion,Charleroi Senior Center and the Over the Hill Retirement Gang. Prior to retirement,Mr. Kraynek had been employed at Fisher Body as a tool maker.  A veteran of world War II,Mr. Kraynek was a staff sergeant in Co. G,116th Infantry,29th Division, U.S. Army. Mr. Kraynek was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Kraynek was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Kraynek; a brother, Samuel Kraynek and five sisters, Ethel, Martha,Eva,Anna and Olga. Survivors include a son Bruce and his wife,Judy Kraynek of Mr. Airy,Md.; a daughter and son-in-law,Lois and Dennis Harbrat of West Mifflin; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Brittany Habrat; a brother, Michael Kraynek of Monessen; a sister, Mary Callahan of Silver Springs, Md and several nieces and nephews. Friends were received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rhome Funeral Home Inc. 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen. Prayer services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeal home, followed by a Funeral Service in St. John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church,Monessen at 10 a.m.  Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
