Obituary

Walter Gillingham,415 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,died suddenly Thursday,May 31,1973,at 7:30 p.m.at Charleroi Division of Mon Valley Hospital. Mr.Gillingham was born Oct.18,1888,in Sunnyside,Allegheny County,a son of the late John W.and Martha Rue Gillingham. He had been a resident of Belle Vernon the past 53 years and retired in 1960 as a locomotive engineer after 43 years of service with Monessen Southwestern Railway of the former Pittsburgh Steel Co. He belonged to United Presbyterian Church,Belle Vernon. He is survived by his widow,Lydia Curl Gillingham,two daughters,Mrs.John (Dorothy) Bell and Mrs.Charles (Eleaner) Stark,both of Belle Vernon,a brother,A.Ross Gillingham of Blairsville,two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Saturday and noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Sunday at Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,Belle Vernon,where funeral service will be at 1 p.m.Monday with the Revs.Seth P.Bower and Charles Colas officiating. Burial in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
