Walter Gillingham;415 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;died suddenly Thursday;May 31;1973;at 7:30 p.m.at Charleroi Division of Mon Valley Hospital. Mr.Gillingham was born Oct.18;1888;in Sunnyside;Allegheny County;a son of the late John W.and Martha Rue Gillingham. He had been a resident of Belle Vernon the past 53 years and retired in 1960 as a locomotive engineer after 43 years of service with Monessen Southwestern Railway of the former Pittsburgh Steel Co. He belonged to United Presbyterian Church;Belle Vernon. He is survived by his widow;Lydia Curl Gillingham;two daughters;Mrs.John (Dorothy) Bell and Mrs.Charles (Eleaner) Stark;both of Belle Vernon;a brother;A.Ross Gillingham of Blairsville;two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Saturday and noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Sunday at Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;where funeral service will be at 1 p.m.Monday with the Revs.Seth P.Bower and Charles Colas officiating. Burial in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
