Virginia L. Scullion; 74; passed away March 2; 2010; at the Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center near Reading; Pa.; following a valiant three-year fight with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) – also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. She was born on June 7; 1935; in Fayette City; the second child of Edward and Sara (Stark) Scullion. Virginia graduated from Fayette City Elementary School and later from Charleroi High School before attending and graduating from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania with a degree in education. She attained her graduate degree in education from Ohio University in Athens; Ohio. Virginia had classroom and counseling experience in high schools in both Pennsylvania and Ohio. A lifelong learner and educational professional; Virginia served for several years as the Assistant to the Dean of Student Affairs at the Berks Center of the Pennsylvania State University. She subsequently joined the staff of Albright College in Reading; as the Associate Dean of Students for Career Services. She served in this capacity for more than 20 years until her retirement. Virginia was also active and held various high level leadership positions in many state and middle Atlantic educational professional associations; including the Pennsylvania College Personnel Association; and the Central Pennsylvania Employment Consortium. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law; Sara and Glenn Johnson; of Pittsburgh; and her nephew; Scott Johnson; of Allentown. A celebration and memorial service in memory of Virginia’s life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon; 501 Fayette St.; Belle Vernon; Pa.; 15012; on Saturday; March 27; at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be private.
