Virginia (Eugenia) Gialas of 736 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;died Friday;Oct.2;1987;at 8:45 a.m. She was 100. Mrs.Giala wa born March 10;1887;in Mesta;Chios;Greece;a daughter of the late Andrea and Calliope Roumbakin Patricousis. She was the oldest living member of St.Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Monessen. Her husband;James Isederis Gialas;who died Oct.9;1973;was one of the founding pioneers of St.Spyridon Church. Mrs.Gialas had been a resident of Stockdale from 1920 until moving to Belle Vernon in 1952. In addition to her husband and her parents;she was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Survivors include one son;George Gialas of Cornwell Heights;four daughters;Mrs.Steve (Mary) Salidis of Springfield;Irene Retos;widow of Dr.George Retos;of Washington;Pa.;Dr.Angeline Gialas of Lake Wales;Fla.;and Caroline Gialas at home;five grandchildren;George Jr.;Gregory;Gary and Karen Retos;all of Washington and Victoria Gialas of Cornwell Heights;three great-grandchildren;Brandon;Nicholas and Kassandra Retos and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Sunday from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;where a prayer service will be held Monday;Oct.5;at 10:15 a.m.;followed by funeral services at 11 a.m.in St.Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church;Monessen;with the Rev.Nicholas Moskovites;pastor;officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Trisagion service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m.in the funeral home. Shelby D.Ferguson;funeral director;is in charge of arrangements.
