Obituary

Vera M. Lomax, 82, of Monessen, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012, peacefully at her home. Born Sept. 16, 1929, in Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Alberta Littleton-Stanley. In addition to her parent, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Piggy Lomax Jr., two brothers, Curtis Curly and Jesse Littleton. Vera moved to Donora at an early age with her family and attended the Donora school system, graduating in 1948. She married the love of her life, William Piggy Lomax Jr., on July 15, 1950. Shortly after their marriage, they relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y., where she resided until 1986 when she returned to the Mon Valley. Vera was a compassionate, extremely honest, and fiercely loyal woman who cherished her family. She was a very prayerful woman who loved the Lord. She was a member of the St. Paul Baptist Church in Donora. She will be remembered in love by her daughter, Vicky Lomax, of Monessen, one sister, Anna B. Smith, of Sorrento Springs, Fla., one aunt, Jessie Mitchell, of Queens, N.Y., a special nephew, Darnell Littleton, two nieces, Toni Briggs and Elanore Littleton, who served as her caretakers during her illness, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. in St. Paul Baptist Church, 49 S. McKean Ave., Donora, Pa. An additional viewing will be held at the church on Friday, May 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service with the Rev. Richard Wingfield officiating. Interment will take place at Belle Vernon Cemetery.
