Vera McDermott, 87, of Roscoe, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2015. A daughter of the late Michael and Gertrude Hoffman Mitchell, she was born in Fairhope on January 18, 1928. Vera was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church of Charleroi and later attended St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church in Moon Twp. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Fairhope until 1959. Vera’s passion was dancing. She enjoyed ballroom, line-dancing, polka and clogging, and participated in the Mon Valley Showboat. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to two bridge clubs. She also enjoyed traveling and going to the casino. Vera volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Survivors include one daughter Sharon Jones of Robinson Twp. and her longtime companion, Jeff Koury; a sister, Shirley Gelzheiser of Elizabeth; a long time companion, Ed Mahr of Moon Twp., numerous nieces and nephews and step children Carna Haller, Anet Smurphat, Thomas Leo McDermott Jr, Charles McDermott and Marie Lacey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Jones in 1977; her husband, Thomas Leo McDermott in 2000; and a sister, Lydia Urbany.
