Velma Matthews Frezzell Joyner;77;of Cleveland;Ohio;formerly of Monessen;died Monday;Jan.8;1996;in the Margaret Wagner Nursing Home;Cleveland. She was born May 158;1918;in Park Long;Ala.;a daughter of the late David J.and Estella Worsham Matthews. She formerly operated the New York Restaurant in Monessen. She was a member of the Mt.Calvary Baptist Church;Monessen;and she was a member of the usher board;the Calvary Gospel Chorus;and an active member of the Church. She was a member of the Okay Lodge;Monessen affiliation. Survivors include three sons;George Frezzell of Washington;D.C.and James and David Frezzell of New York;three daughters;Elaine Bowling and Cassandra Lawson;both of Cleveland;Ohio;and Gloria Anderson of Monessen;and three sisters; Willa J.Newberry and Theresa Wall;both of Belle Vernon;and Jane Moore of Columbus;Ohio;22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents;she was preceded in death by one son;Kenneth Frezzell;two brothers;David and William Matthews;two sisters;Thelma Matthews and Delight Wilson. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Mt.Calvary Baptist Church;Reed Avenue;Monessen;where funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev.Griffin E.Mason;pastor;officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The William R.Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
