Obituary

Velma Matthews Frezzell Joyner,77,of Cleveland,Ohio,formerly of Monessen,died Monday,Jan.8,1996,in the Margaret Wagner Nursing Home,Cleveland. She was born May 158,1918,in Park Long,Ala.,a daughter of the late David J.and Estella Worsham Matthews. She formerly operated the New York Restaurant in Monessen. She was a member of the Mt.Calvary Baptist Church,Monessen,and she was a member of the usher board,the Calvary Gospel Chorus,and an active member of the Church. She was a member of the Okay Lodge,Monessen affiliation. Survivors include three sons,George Frezzell of Washington,D.C.and James and David Frezzell of New York,three daughters,Elaine Bowling and Cassandra Lawson,both of Cleveland,Ohio,and Gloria Anderson of Monessen,and three sisters, Willa J.Newberry and Theresa Wall,both of Belle Vernon,and Jane Moore of Columbus,Ohio,22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents,she was preceded in death by one son,Kenneth Frezzell,two brothers,David and William Matthews,two sisters,Thelma Matthews and Delight Wilson. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Mt.Calvary Baptist Church,Reed Avenue,Monessen,where funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev.Griffin E.Mason,pastor,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The William R.Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
