Valley A. Val Zdilla; 77; of Rostraver Township; died Thursday; May 23; 2002; in his home. He was born in Monessen on Jan. 15; 1925; a son of the late George and Anna Antolik Zdilla. Val was a graduate of Monessen High School with the Class of 1943 and was retired from the Allenport plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. Mr. Zdilla was a veteran of World War II; having served the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles and as a paratrooper who jumped in Normandy on D-Day. He re-enlisted in the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Zdilla was a proud member of the Church of St. Anne in Rostraver Township; where he served as an usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He also was a member of the Belle Vernon American Legion; the Belle Vernon VFW; and the Ukrainian Club of Monessen. He is survived by his wife of 49 years; Louise Essey Zdilla; one daughter; Adrienne Kostal of Rostraver Township; one son; Rev. Valentine Zdilla of Santa Clarita; Calif.; one granddaughter; Desiree Kostal of Austell; Ga.; one brother and sister-in-law; John and Natalie Zdilla of Monessen; one sister and brother-in-law; Katherine and Louis Berard of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents; Mr. Zdilla was preceded in death by one sister; Margaret Zdilla. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC.; 580 Circle Drive; Sweeney Plan/Rostraver Township. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Anne with his son; Rev. Valentine Zdilla; officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery; Rostraver Township. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Church of St. Anne; 1870 Rostraver Road; Belle Vernon; Pa. 15012.
