Obituary

Thomas E. Pitera, 68, of Belle Vernon (Rostraver Township), died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, in Mon Valley Hospital. Born Aug. 23, 1943, in Windber, he was the son of the late Frank and Matilda Ann (Boyle) Pitera. Tom was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Levittown. He was a retired industrial electrician for U.S. Steel Fairless Works and Clairton Works. He enjoyed being a baseball coach for the Pacific Baseball League and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and golfing. Tom was also a member of the Church of St. Anne in Rostraver Township, where he was active in the Holy Name Society and was an usher. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan L. (Wilkinson) Pitera, children, Susan (John) Iezzatti, of Newtown, Tom (Susan) Pitera, of Jefferson City, Mo., and Anita Arndt, of Warminster, grandchildren, Katie and John Iezzatti, Jessica, Allyson and Mikayla Pitera and Christopher Arndt, sisters and brothers, Mary Ann Pavlisin, of Hillsdale, Frank Pitera, of Windber, Patricia Schriever, of Bristol, Denise Crookham, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Catherine Rubino, of Douglasville, and Jim Pitera, of Scalp Level, aunts, Rose Slovich, Kathryn Davidson and Betty Mae Wall, an uncle, Joe Boyle, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Tantorno and Christine Crookham. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Anne, 1870 Rostraver Road, Belle Vernon, with the Rev. Vincent J. Gigliotti as celebrant. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Rostraver Food Bank, c/o Belle Vernon Area Ministerium (BVAM), P.O.
