Thomas Grant,age 20,son of Mr.and Mrs.Harry Grant of 432 Green street,Belle Vernon,died Tuesday,November 11,1930,at noon in the Mercy hospital,Pittsburgh as a result of a fractured skull received Sunday afternoon when a large rock in an abandoned mine near Belle Vernon fell,striking him on the head. Mr.Grant,along with Harry Reynolds and Charles Speers went to the mine located some distance back of the North Belle Vernon Junior High School and decided to explore the workings. While the trio were in the mine a huge rock became loosened from the roof and fell striking the Grant boy on the head. His companions carried him to a nearby home and called a doctor but the injured youth regaining consciousness,got up and walked about a half mile to his home. The physician went to his home and found that the young man had suffered a fracture and ordered his removal to the hospital,where he succumbed Tuesday afternoon. The body was brought to his late home and funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock in the Belle Vernon Methodist Church with interment in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
