Obituary

A double funeral was held this afternoon,May 6,1926,for Thomas Arthur, aged 44 years, and his sister,Mrs.Mattie McCafferty, aged 47,both of Belle Vernon, who died in the Charleroi-Monessen hospital from the results of influenza. Mr.Arthur died Friday,April 30,and his sister passed away yesterday,May 6,1926. Mrs.McCafferty and her brother had lived together in Belle Vernon for a number of years and were well-known. A short time ago, they were both seized with an attack of influenza and as there was no one to care for them,no relatives being known, the two were removed to the Charleroi-Monessen hospital. Mr.Arthur's condition was grave, resulting in his death last Friday,April 30. Mrs. McCafferty's condition was also serious but she was expected to recover. The body of Mr.Arthur was kept by authorities in hopes that Mrs.McCafferty would gain enough strength to hear of his death and attend his funeral. Interment took place in the Belle Vernon Cemetery and the brother and sister were laid side by side. Rev. Stanley H. Jewell, pastor of the First Presbyterain Church, conducted the funeral services.
