Obituary

Theoplia W. Sloan, 95, of Monongahela, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Mon Valley Care Center. Mrs. Sloan was born in Old Fort, N.C., on May 29, 1909, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Maggie Carson Whittington. A homemaker, Mrs. Sloan was a Deaconess at St. Paul Baptist Church, in Donora. She was a church mother and past president of the Deaconess Board, Nurses Board, Missionary Society and the Inspirational Choir. Mrs. Sloan also was a life member of the Star of Bethlehem, Chapter 34. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sloan Sr., and three sons, Charles Stu Sloan Jr., Winslow Sloan and David Sloan. Survivors include one daughter, Charlie M. White and husband Theodore of Monongahela, four sons, Robert E. Sloan and wife Nora of San Diego, Calif., James D. Sloan and wife Brenda of San Diego, Calif., George Sloan and wife Lucille of Ambler, and Wesley D. Sloan and wife Benita of Donora, three daughters-in-law, Audrey Sloan of Donora, Rev. Estelle Sloan of Hazelhurst, Ga., and Annie L. Sloan of San Leandro, Calif., one adopted daughter, Jimmie Lee Corbett, 33 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a devoted friend, Eloise McDowell. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME, Donora, where Order of Eastern Star services will be held at 6 p.m. Religious services will be held Monday, June 7 in St. Paul Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
