Obituary

Tammy Ann Lessman,8,of 148 Lincoln Ave.Extension,Charleroi was struck and killed by a car in front of her home shortly after noon,Tuesday,October 10,1972. Tammy Ann,daughter of Curtis J.and Mary J.Smith Lessman,was prounced dead on arrival at 1:25 p.m.at the Charleoi Division of Mon Valley Hospitals,Inc. Washington County Coroner Farrell Jackson attributed death to a skull fracture. The young girl would have been a second grade student at the Meadow Ave.,Elementary School. Charleroi police identified the driver of the car as Stanley J.Welch,28,of Belle Vernon R.D.2. Welch told police he was driving east on the Lincoln Ave. Extension in a borrowed late model car when the youngster darted from the curb and into his path. Welsh further told police that he attempted to avoid the girl by turning his car sharply off the right side of the road but that she was struck by the left front end of his vehicle. Police said no charges have been filed against Welsh. The Lessman girl was born March 6,1964,in North Charleroi. She was a member of the Mother of Sorrows R.C.Church,Charleroi. Surviving,in addition to her parents,are a brother,Jack and a sister,Kimberly,both at home,her maternal grandparents,Mr.and Mrs.James R.Smith of Belle Vernon,her paternal grandparents,Mr.and Mrs.Jack C.Lessman of Charleroi. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Harold L.Schrock Funeral Home,Charleroi, Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Mother of Sorrows R.C.Church,Charleroi,with the Rev.J.J.Thomas,pastor,officiating.
