Steven E. Smith,210 Main St.,Belle Vernon,died suddenly Thursday,June 25,1981 in the Mon Valley Hospital,Carroll Twp. He was 70. Born Dec. 25,1910 in Niagara Falls,N.Y.,he was the son of the late George and Anna Smith. He came to Belle Vernon in 1946 from Colonial No. 3 (Rowes Run). Mr. Smith was the former tax collector in Belle Vernon Borough,having served in that position for 25 years. He was an employee of the Corning Glass Works,Charleroi plant,retiring in 1976. A veteran of World War II,Mr. Smith had served with the U.S. Army's 705 Tank Destroyer Battalion in Germany. He was a graduate of Redstone High School in 1929 and had attended St. Vincent's College. Mr. Smith was a member of the Belle Vernon American Legion. Survivors include his widow,Violet Daniero Smith;a son, James Smith of Belle Vernon;a daughter, Mrs. Margie Ann Drazba of Shemya,Alaska,and a brother, Joseph Smith of Northridge, Calif. Friends will be received in the Shelby D. Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Lee F. Dinsel,pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon,officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Shelby D. Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
