Steve Baker,66,of Washington ttownship,Fayette County,died Wednesday,May 10,1995,in Jefferson Hospital,Jefferson Borough,after a short illness. Mr. Baker was a former director of the Belle Vernon Area Board of Education and a former Washington Township supervisor. He was born June 12,1928,in Washington Township,Fayette County, a son of the late John N. Baker ad Irene Duda Baker. He was a retired employee of the Fisher Body plant in West Mifflin. Mr. Baker had served as Democratic Committeeman in Washington Township's first precinct for the past 20 years. A former member of the Board of Directors of the Fayette County Housing Authority,he had served as its vice president for five years. Mr. Baker was also a Washington Township tax collector from 1970 to 1975. He served as chairman of the Washington Township Board of Supervisors from 1988 to 1991. Mr. Baker was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was past member of the Fayette County Democratic Committee and was a past president of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Baker was a former constable in Washington Township. He was a member of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church,Fayette City;the Brightwell-Daugherty American Legion Post No. 484,Fayette City;Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 699,Belle Vernon and the Fairhope Rod and Gun Club. Mr. Baker was a member of the United Auto Workers of America. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pauline Ann Vargo Baker;by two sons, Stephen and Kathleen Baker of Fayette City R.D.,and Frank Baker of Bellevue;four daughters, Kimberly and Mark Ciccarelli of Washington,Pa.,Michelle and Mark Barbutes of Foxboro,Mass.,Laurene Baker of Harrisburg and Lisa Baker at home;one grandson,Shawn P. Baker of Fayette City R.D. and two brothers, John Baker,Jr. and James Baker,both of Fairhope,Washington Township,Fayette County. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.,and Saturday until 11 a.m. in the Howard W. McCrory Funeral Home,Fayette City. A Prayer Service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church,Fayette City,with the Rev. Richard E. Mackiewicz as celebrant. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. APparish Wake Service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 8 p.m. The Howard W. McCrory Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
