Obituary

Stephen L.(Chip) Urchick,69,of 335 Shady Ave.,Monessen,died Wednesday,Dec.7,1988,at 3:47 a.m. in Mon Valley hospital. he was born Oct.,29,1919,in Bradenville,a son of the late George and Veronica Urchick. Prior to retirement,he was employed by Westmoreland County as the director of the tax claim bureau. For many years,he co-owned and operated the Continental Bar in Monessen. He was the leader of the Harmoneers Polka Orchestra. He was a U.S. Army veteran of world War II. He was a member of American Legion Post #28 of Monessen,the McKeesport Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans and the Monessen Slovak Home. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Monessen,where he served as an usher and a member of the church council. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by three brothers,John,Joseph and Michael Urchick,and two sisters,Marian Swift and Julia Onderko. Survivors include his wife,Virginia Monita Urchick,one daughter,Mrs.Robert (Stephanie) Lashway of Greensburg,one son and daughter-in-law,Stephen and Tammy Painter Urchick of CLearwater,Fla.,one sister,Anna May Hayden of Monessen,one step-grandson,James Daniel Lashway,nine nephews and nieces and 11 great-nephews and nieces. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Stephen D.Yoney Jr.Funeral Home,First Street and Schoonmaker Avenue,Monessen. Blessing services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m.,followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Cathloic Church,Monessen,with Fr.william Homolak as celebrant. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Rosary and wake services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. The Stephen D.Yoney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
