Obituary

Stephen D. Yoney Jr., 66, of Monongahela, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, in the Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born Oct. 19, 1942, in North Charleroi, a son of Stephen D. Yoney Sr. and Gail Podolinski Yoney. Steve was a graduate of Monessen High School, class of 1960, and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1964. He was a member of the former Holy Name of Jesus Church in Monessen. Upon his graduation from mortuary school, he worked with his father in the funeral business until he opened the Stephen D. Yoney Jr. Funeral Home in 1972, which he was currently operating until his death. He is survived by his wife, Alvera Gantner Yoney, two sons, Stephen D. Yoney III, and his wife Ingrid, of Canonsburg, and Dennis M. Yoney and his wife Jodi, of Charlotte, N.C., three daughters, Gail A. Yoney of Santa Barbara, Calif., Sherry L. Watkins and her husband Gordon, of Charleroi, and Amy M. Yoney, of Las Vegas, Nev., five grandchildren, Erica Yoney, Gordon Watkins III, Ashley Watkins, Alyse and Gabrielle Yoney, and his faithful companions, Sandy and Margaret. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Yoney. Friends will be received on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main Street, Monongahela. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Epiphany Of Our Lord Church with the Rev. David Nazimek, pastor as celebrant. Committal services and interment will follow.
