Sophia E. Smith, a former Belle Vernon resident,died Thursday morning,July 22,1971 at 7 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank (Clara) Scotch of 166 Ellsworth St.in California,with whom she made her home. Mrs. Smith, who was born in Lithuania was 88 years old. Her husband,Charles C. Smith Sr.,died Dec. 24,1962. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in California,Pa. Surviving, in addition to Mrs. Scotch,are a son, Charles Smith Jr. of North Belle Vernon,two other daughters, Mrs Margaret Medica and Mrs. Frances Gula,both of Pittsburgh,10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Friends will be received after 7 p.m. Thursday at the Calellie and Greenlief Funeral Home,California, where a Requiem High Mass will be said Saturday,July 24 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas R.C.Church, California. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
