Sophia A. Turek Sabolek; 88; of Belle Vernon; died Wednesday; June 14; 2006; at 10:45 p.m. at the home of her daughter. Born Feb. 4; 1918; in Fayette City; she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Sophia Chesnik Turek. A resident of Belle Vernon for the past two years; having previously resided in Washington Township; Mrs. Sabolek was a retired clerk from House of Cards; a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church; Belle Vernon; she was very active in church activities for many years and she enjoyed playing cards with many card clubs. She was a past member of the Mon Valley Quilt Club; making quilts for all of her children; grandchildren and friends; a former girl scouts leader; and she was an accomplished artist and member of the former Catholic Daughters of the Americas B.V. Court 1522. She was also instrumental in starting the PTA at Marion Elementary School. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; David George and Joan Sabolek; of Clear Lake; Iowa; Edward Andrew and Valerie Sabolek; of Belle Vernon; four daughters and sons-in-law; Mary Louise and Donald DeFazio; of Connellsville; Lenora and Harry Anthony; of Belle Vernon; Cecelia Joan and Roger Shaffer; of Cape Coral; Fla.; Susan Lepore; of Northfield; Ohio; a sister; Margaret Applegate; of Belle Vernon; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; Joseph M. Sabolek on Sept. 11; 1996; a son; James Joseph Sabolek; and several brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME; Family Owned and Operated; 626 Broad Ave.; Belle Vernon; 724-929-6183. Prayer Service will be held at noon Saturday in the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m. at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas; V.F.; pastor; as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian Parish will recite the rosary for the departed soul of Sophia Sabolek at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
