A 23-year-old Monessen man,Shelby McWilliams,was fatally injured Sunday morning,May 6,1956,when the car in which he was riding went out of control and overturned on Route 837 near Elrama. Mr. McWilliams,of 1266 Morgan avenue,died of a broken neck and internal injuries at 9:20 a.m. Sunday morning. He was dead on arrival at Monongahela Memorial Hospital. He had just completed working the 12 to 8 a.m. shift in the open hearth department of the Monessen plant of Pittsburgh Steel Co.and was on his way to visit friends in Clairton when the fatal mishap occurred. A 1950 graduate of Monessen High School, Mr. McWilliams is survived by his wife,Gene Ruth;his parents,Mr.and Mrs. Oscar McWilliams,of 1266 Morgan avenue;seven brothers,Edward,Eugene,Gene,Clark,Earl,Allen and Lonnie and three sisters,Juanita,Laraine and Sheril Ann. In 1950 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and served overseas in England and Germany. Friends will be received at the Draper Funeral Home,Monessen. Funeral Home visiting hours will be from 1 to 5 and from 7 to 10 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday,May 9,at 11 a.m. from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Monessen with Rev. E. Archie officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Beverly C. Draper,funeral director.
