Obituary

Samuel Zabawsky,85,of Lynnwood,Belle Vernon,died Friday,July 16,1999,at 2:08 a.m.in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born in North Charleroi on April 20,1914.a son of the late Nicholas and Mary Bubernik Zabawsky. Mr.Zabawsky lived in the Belle Vernon area most of his life,where he was a member of the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church. He was a reader and member of the church choir. He retired from the Allenport plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and had also worked as a mechanic. Mr.Zabawsky was a World War II veteran,holding the rank of first sergeant in the U.S.Army Air Corps. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by his wife,Marie Cannoni Zabawsky,on Aug.10,1988,and by three brothers,Wassil,Andrew, and Steve Zabawsky. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law,Samuel R.and Nancy Zabawsky of Miami.Fla.,and Stephen M.and Linda Zabawsky of Pittsburgh,and one sister,Ann Serbak of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon. Friends will gather at the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church of Belle Vernon on Monday,where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.with the Rev.John Kluchko officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Parastas service will be held Sunday at 8 p.m.in the funeral home. The Ferguson Funeral home Inc.is in charge of arrangements.
