Samuel Zabawsky;85;of Lynnwood;Belle Vernon;died Friday;July 16;1999;at 2:08 a.m.in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born in North Charleroi on April 20;1914.a son of the late Nicholas and Mary Bubernik Zabawsky. Mr.Zabawsky lived in the Belle Vernon area most of his life;where he was a member of the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church. He was a reader and member of the church choir. He retired from the Allenport plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and had also worked as a mechanic. Mr.Zabawsky was a World War II veteran;holding the rank of first sergeant in the U.S.Army Air Corps. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by his wife;Marie Cannoni Zabawsky;on Aug.10;1988;and by three brothers;Wassil;Andrew; and Steve Zabawsky. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law;Samuel R.and Nancy Zabawsky of Miami.Fla.;and Stephen M.and Linda Zabawsky of Pittsburgh;and one sister;Ann Serbak of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon. Friends will gather at the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church of Belle Vernon on Monday;where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.with the Rev.John Kluchko officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Parastas service will be held Sunday at 8 p.m.in the funeral home. The Ferguson Funeral home Inc.is in charge of arrangements.
