Samuel Smock Houseman,died at his home at North Belle Vernon,at 8:30 Friday morning March 18,1911 of cancer of the ear. Mr. Houseman had been sick about a year,but was operated on last fall and for the second time was considered getting better,death however did not come unexpected as the dread disease had fastened its hold upon him. One of a lage family Mr. Houseman was born in Rostraver township,April 14,1820,a son of James and Rhuhanna (Smock) Houseman. The greater part of his life was on a farm. When the Civil war came he went to the front with Company F,First Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry,with which he served for four years. He rose to be a sergeant and was an orderly on the staff of General Judson Kilpatrick,who was in command of the calvary on Sherman's march to the sea. Shortly after his return from the was,Mr. Houseman married Margaret Moltz. They had five children,of whom two are now living,Mrs. Charles Allen,of Roscoe and Charles G. Houseman at home. He leaves one brother and one sister,A.L.Houseman and Mrs. Samuel Frye,both of Roscoe. The deceased had been a member of the Presbyterian Church all his life.
