S. Joseph Amato; 85; of Belle Vernon; formerly of Levittown; passed away Wednesday; Feb. 9; 2011; in Havencrest Nursing Center. A son of the late Joseph and Mary Edwards Amato; he was born in Belle Vernon on Nov. 12; 1925. He was Methodist by faith and was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659. Prior to retirement in 1986; he had been employed at U.S. Steel Fairless Hills Plant. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War; he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and Air Force. Survivors include his wife of 57 years; Ruth Read Amato; a brother; Lloyd Amato and wife; Cleo; of Belle Vernon; a sister; Sarafene Huscroft and husband; Norman; of Belle Vernon; a sister-in-law; Laura Byers and husband; Ray; of Rostraver; two brothers-in-law; Bill Read and wife; Laura; of Columbus; Ohio; and Gary Treibsch; of Mt. Lebanon. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law; Sandy Read Treibsch; in 2010.
