Mrs. Ruth Helen Hammitt, widow of John Wesley Hammitt, died Christmas Day,December 25,1940, at 12:15 p. m. at the home of her son, C. W. Hammitt, 337 Green street, Belle Vernon, following a lingering illness. She was in her 87th year. During her earlier life, she was an active worker in the Christian Church. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Josephine Corwin, of Clarksburg, W. Va., and two sons, C. W. Hammitt and William Hammitt, of Belle Vernon. Sixteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren also survive,along with a sister,Mrs. Ollie Amalong,of Belle Vernon. Friends are being received at the Melenyzer funeral home in Broad avenue,Belle Vernon,where services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock,with Rev, Elmer Lewis,officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
