Obituary

Mother Ruth E. Robertson, daughter of the late Lee and Katie Nimmo, was born Oct. 20, 1919, in Roanoke, Va. When she was young, her family moved to Portsmouth, Ohio, where she resided until she relocated to Monessen with her husband Tom at the age of 22. Shortly after her arrival in Monessen, she became a member of the Gate of Heaven Church of God in Christ, under the pastorate of Bishop J.E. Bass, where she continued to serve until her death. With her daughter at her side, Mother Robertson was called to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the age of 89. Mother Robertson was a committed Christian at a very young age and found pleasure in serving God. She was called to be a missionary and, throughout her life, was known for telling others about the goodness of God and sharing her testimony. While she was ill and residing at the nursing homes, she continued this ministry by witnessing to the staff and residents. As a member of Gate of Heaven, Mother Robertson was president of the Bible Band, the weekly Bible study, president of the Missionary Board, and a member of the Women to Women Ministry Group. She served in these offices until God called her home. For many years she visited those who were ill and needed assistance and prayer. She was a 'prayer warrior' and taught others how to live like Christ. As a Church Mother, she was well respected by those in the church as well as in the community. She was regarded as a very compassionate and generous person, always willing to listen but never failing to tell you what was right according to the Bible. In addition to her involvement with the church, Mother Robertson loved her family and prayed for them daily. She maintained an immaculate home and was a wonderful cook, always willing to share a meal. Even in her latter years, when she lived with her daughter and family, everyone enjoyed when Mother Robertson cooked dinner. She is survived by her son, James Robertson and wife Rose, of Monessen, daughter, Lois Robertson and husband Jerome Littlejohn Sr., of Monroeville, seven grandchildren, Clifford Robertson and wife Mary Ann, of Pittsburgh, James Robertson Jr., of Wheeling, W.Va., Denise Robertson and husband Stanley, of Monessen, Dionne Robertson, of Monessen, Jerome Littlejohn Jr. and wife Renee, of Boston, Mass., and Adam and Marcus Littlejohn Sr., both of Monroeville, four great-grandsons, Jeremy Miller, of Monessen, Laurent' Robertson and his mother Doris, of Charleroi, Jacob Blackson, of Pittsburgh, and Marcus Littlejohn Jr., of Monroeville, one surviving sister, Leona Bendolph, of Portsmouth, Ohio, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, friends and the Gate of Heaven church family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Robertson, who passed away in 1966, and three sisters, Laura, Roberta and Elizabeth. Family and friends will be received Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in Gate of Heaven Church of God in Christ, 644 Reed Ave., Monessen. Additional viewing will be held in the church on Tuesday, May 19, from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service with Elder William C. Bass officiating. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the BEVERLY C. DRAPER FUNERAL HOME INC., 608 Sixth St., Monessen (724-684-6242).
