Obituary

Russell Yapchanyk, 80, of Brown Street, Belle Vernon, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born March 8, 1921, in Elco, a son of the late John and Martha Flack Yapchanyk. Protestant by faith, he was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, the Russian Club and Moose Club of Belle Vernon and the Roscoe Slovak Club. He had resided Belle Vernon since 1962 and retired from the former Lee Norse Company in Charleroi. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mary Taylor Solomon Yapchanyk, one son and daughter-in-law, William and Connie Solomon of Las Vegas, Nev., three daughters and one son-in-law, Lauralee and Thomas Wagner of Rostraver Township, Maryann Crawford of Lititz, and Carol Sue Bertovich of Monessen, one sister, Verona Yapchanyk of Roscoe, 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., a Golden Rule Member Firm, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Timothy McConville, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home to conduct services.
