Obituary

Ruby Draper-McCraw, 98, of Rostraver Township, formerly of Monessen, was called to glory Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, in the Cherry Tree Nursing Center in Uniontown. Born in Monessen, Sept. 26, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Stamper Draper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry K. McCraw, two daughters, Marilyn McCraw-Simpson and Harrietta McCraw-Bailey, one brother, Beverly C. Draper Sr., and one sister, Dundeenah Draper. Ruby was a 1929 graduate of Monessen High School, a faithful and devoted member of the Union Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School secretary and teacher, pianist, and president of the Senior Missionary Society in the Youghiogheny Western Baptist Association. She served as president of the Junior Convention, president of the Women's Home and Foreign Mission Convention, a past president of the Pennsylvania State Convention Women's Auxiliary, and was active in the Lott Carey Convention. In recent years, Ruby was a regular attendee at the Acorn Adult Day Center in Monessen. Leaving to cherish her memory are one daughter, Carolyn (Alphonse) Carter, three grandaughters, Shelley (Robert) Ramsey, of Rostraver, with whom she made her home, Sharon Bailey, of Houston, Texas, and Dr. Cynthia Carter, of Boston, one grandson, Dale (Michele) Simpson, of Monessen, two great-grandsons, Robert R. Ramsey, of Pittsburgh, and Zachary Lyncee, of Boston, four great-grandaughters, Julee Bailey, of Houston Texas, Shaina Ramsey, of Pittsburgh, Selene and Soleil Simpson, of Monessen, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Baptist Church, 670 McMahon Ave., Monessen, followed by funeral services with the Rev. Craig Rice officiating. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the BEVERLY C. DRAPER FUNERAL HOME, 608 Sixth St., Monessen (724) 684-6242.
