Obituary

Roy L.Smock,81,of Belle Vernon R.D.2,died Friday,July 20,1990 at 3:45 a.m.in Jefferson Hospital. He was born Jan.17,1909,in Belle Vernon,a son of the late Gilbert F.and Mary Jane Amalong Smock. Mr.Smock was a lifelong resident of Belle Vernon,where he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 659. A U.S.Army veteran,he was a retired self-employed carpenter in the Mon Valley. He was also a member of Carpenters Local 541. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by his wife,Edith Hamilton Smock,on Jan.25,1985,and by a brother,Donald Gordon Smock,Oct.27,1979. Survivors include one daughter,Mrs.William (Mary Jane) Jones of Rockville,Md.,two granddaughters,Melanie Jane Owen of Gambrills,Md.,and Karen Lee Oliver of Wardorf,Md.,three great-grandchildren,Heather Leigh and Erin Marie Owen,both of Gambrills,Md.,and Matt Oliver of Waldorf,Md.,and one brother,Thurman Ellwood Smock of Uniontown. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where services will be held with the Rev.Dr.Thomas St.Clair,pastor of the First united Methodist Church of Belle Vernon,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
