Obituary

Ross Basile, 87, of Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, after courageously fighting a lengthy illness. Born and raised in Belle Vernon, he was a son of the late Guiseppe and Sarafina Rodgers Basile. Ross was retired from the Allenport plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company after 32 years of service. He was a corporal in the Army Air Force during World War II. Ross enjoyed the art of photography and browsing garage sales and flea markets. He attended watch making school under the GI Bill and was a member of the former Belle Vernon Camera Club. Ross spent many years helping the neighbors and relatives as the family handyman and was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1957, where he served as a trustee. Ross was a faithful and loving husband of 65 years to Anna Mae Connor Basile. Other survivors include three adoring sons and four daughters-in-law, Bill and Dorothy Basile, of Newell, Bob and Cindy Basile, of Perryopolis, Jack and Rose Basile, of McKees Rocks and Lisa Marie Basile, of West Newton. He will be sadly missed by his five loving grandchildren, Lesley Lubrani (Michael), of Rostraver Township, Jodi Mima (Ed), of Washington Township, Jack Basile Jr., (Wendy), of McKees Rock, Bob Basile (Nina), of Chalk Hill and Brandon Basile, of Belle Vernon, his seven great-grandchildren, Bob, Alec, Joshua, Michael, Mia, Jacob, and Jaxon, and several nieces and nephews. Ross was preceded in death by his youngest son, Ross Andrew Basile, in 2007, and siblings, Carrie Flora, Samuel Basile, James Basile, Rose Greco, Margaret Harrison, Anthony Basile, Roland Basile, Mary Mate, Robert Basile and John Basile. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, (724) 929-5300, www.fergusonfuneralhomeandcrematory.com. Funeral services will be in the First Baptist Church, 511 Short St., Belle Vernon, at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Ronald W. Malm officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 511 Short St. Belle Vernon, PA 15012.
