Obituary

Rose Quintier Kander, 87, of N. Belle Vernon, passed on to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 25, 2012. A daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Cicco Quintier, she was born in Belle Vernon on May 30, 1925. Rose was a graduate of the Douglas School of Business and was employed as a secretary for West Penn Power Company until her marriage in 1950. After raising her children, she worked at Giant Eagle and Hill's Department Store where she was known as the 'snack bar lady'. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon and United Methodist Women. Rose taught Sunday School for many years, she always enjoyed being remembered by her former students. Rose served as an officer for the Tuesday Evening Civic Club, Strikettes Bowling League, and was an enthusiastic member of the Golden Agers, where she served as president and looked forward to activities at Center on the Hill. Rose was known for her smile, upbeat attitude, and her love of life. She was an inspiration not only to her family members, but to her friends and co-workers as well. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Ronald Kander and his wife, Amy of Philadelphia, one daughter, Linda Kander of Mifflinburg, PA, one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Quintier and his wife, Lorraine, of Belle Vernon, one sister, Joanne Schuster, of Monongahela, nieces, nephew, great-nieces and great-nephew all of whom were very dear to her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Kander in 1996, and her sister Patricia Quintier. Friends will be received in the funeral home on Thursday, July 26, from 7 to 9 PM and Friday, July 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. David Zona officiating and Pastor Kenneth Jones co-officiating. Prior to this service a one hour visitation will be held in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon or Belle Vernon Golden Agers, Center on the Hill.
