Roland E.Shawley Sr.;74;of 500 Blind Lane;formerly of Jones Street;Belle Vernon;died Tuesday;May 22;2001;in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late James and Eliz Shawley;he was born in Monessen on Feb.11;1927. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon;the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department;Westmoreland County Firemen’s Association;Fire Chief’s Association of Westmoreland County;Mohawk’s Association and West Newton American Legion Post 401. Formerly of Monessen;he had resided in Belle Vernon for 43 years. He served with the U.S.Navy during WW II. Mrs.Shawley retired after 25 years with the Guttman Oil Co. Survivors include his wife of 53 years;Irene Jones Shawley;a daughter and son-in-law;Nancy and Dale Turis of Dawson;a son and daughter-in-law;Roland E.and Janet Shawley Jr.of Belle Vernon;a sister;Jean Boyd of Arrowhead Lake;and five grandchildren;Scott;Jason and Nicole Shawley and Jennifer and Dan Turis. Friends will be received in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC.;a Golden Rule Member Firm;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 11:30 a.m.;with the Rev.Timothy McConville officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department will meet in the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m.to conduct services.
