Obituary

Robert Shrum Whitelaw,aged 47,died at his home on Speer Street,on Monday morning,February 23,1920. He was born on September 8,1872. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon,February 26,1920,in the First Christian Church of which he has long been so active and an honored member. Rev.J.E.Gordon,of Homestead,officiated. He was assisted by Revs.J.B.Taylor and Henry Madtes. The auditorium was well filled with a large circle of friends and relatives of the deceased. Mr.Whitelaw was a member of the Knights Templar Commandery of Pittsburgh,McKeesport Chapter 282 R.A.M.and the local Lodge F&AM No.643. The latter attended the services at the Church in a body and at the grave rendered the impressive ritual of the order for the Burial of the Dead. The deceased is survived by his wife,Mrs.Margaret Hough Whitelaw,and five children,Mrs.Conway Hogg,Lulu,Roy,John and Robert,all of the city. Also by five sisters,Mrs.Mary Howell,Mrs.Jemima Ruth,Mrs.Helen Elder,Mrs.Christina Hough and Mrs.Elizabeth Miller,none of whom are residents here. Interment was made in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
