Obituary

Robert Raymond Crowl, of Belle Vernon, and recently of Long Beach, N.Y., died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010. The cause of death was seizure which led to cardiac arrest. Two daughters survive their father, Julianne Crowl, 39, of Seattle, Wash., and Jennifer Lee Crowl, 37, of Long Beach, N.Y. Mr. Crowl had suffered a massive stroke in June 2005, and lived since with substantial physical and mental incapacities. Since his illness in 2005, he had been cared for by his daughter, Jennifer Lee, and her husband, Christopher G. Rinaman, in New York. Mrs. Julia Jay Paholski, Julianne and Jennifer's grandmother, of Belle Vernon, also mourns his passing. Born to Ann (Whitecheck) and Robert Crowl, both deceased, in Centerville, Pa., Crowl graduated from Centerville High School in 1957, and received his bachelor's degree in metal and wood shop from California University in California, Pa. He served in the Army from 1961-1963 in the Army Air Defense Command Choral Group playing concerts in venues all across the country, including Carnegie Hall. Bob Crowl worked as a salesman at Castrol North America, where he sold metal-working fluids to industrial machine shops in the tri-state area. He retired from Castrol after 31 years in 2000. Bob was active in the parish community at St. Anne Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and the St. Anne Choir. He was a favorite server at the church's spaghetti dinners. He also enjoyed flying (he held a private pilot's license in the 1970s and 1980s), woodworking, golf, playing cards, and cutting the grass. Bob's pride and joy were his daughters. Julianne works in Seattle as legal assistant for Starbucks Corp. Jennifer is an actress and dancer in New York. Crowl is also survived by his brother, William Crowl, of Wheaton, Ill., a sister, Marlyn Chiera, of Washington, Pa., two nephews, Bill Crowl and Brian Chiera, and a niece, Melanie Hendrix. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township, (724-929-7934), www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Church of St. Anne, Rostraver Township, with his pastor, the Rev. Ronald L. Simboli, presiding. Interment will be held in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
