Obituary

Robert Matthews,a pioneer land owner of this valley, died at his home, corner Schoonmaker avenue and Oneida street on Sunday morning,December 25,1921,at 11:30 o'clock.  ,He was aged about 72 years and had been ill a very short time, due to infirmities of age.  ,The deceased was one of three members of a pioneer family of this valley who retained an old homestead and dwelled together until separated by death.  ,George, the elder brother, died several years ago and the death of Robert on Sunday leaves the sister,Mass Mary alone.  ,The estate is considered valuable and is composed largely of land adjoining Monessen, part of which originally extended to the Monongahela river and was sold a few years ago to the railroad company.  ,Mr.Matthews and his sister had just erected a large business block on Schoonmaker avenue and had moved into an apartment in the building a few days ago,but death interferred with the plans.  ,The funeral will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the late home, conducted by Rev.H.D.Rudolph,pastor of the M. E. Church  ,Interment will be made in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.  ,Friends are requested to omit flowers.
