Robert Matthews;a pioneer land owner of this valley;died at his home;corner Schoonmaker avenue and Oneida street on Sunday morning;December 25;1921;at 11:30 o’clock. He was aged about 72 years and had been ill a very short time;due to infirmities of age. The deceased was one of three members of a pioneer family of this valley who retained an old homestead and dwelled together until separated by death. George; the elder brother;died several years ago and the death of Robert on Sunday leaves the sister;Mass Mary alone. The estate is considered valuable and is composed largely of land adjoining Monessen;part of which originally extended to the Monongahela river and was sold a few years ago to the railroad company. Mr.Matthews and his sister had just erected a large business block on Schoonmaker avenue and had moved into an apartment in the building a few days ago;but death interferred with the plans. The funeral will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the late home;conducted by Rev.H.D.Rudolph;pastor of the M. E. Church Interment will be made in the Belle Vernon Cemetery. Friends are requested to omit flowers.
