Obituary

R. James "Rab" Currie,84,of Belle Vernon,died Saturday,Dec. 28,1996,in Mon Valley Hospital.  Born Nov.3,1912,in Monessen,he was the son of the late James and Dorothy Hileman Currie. A graduate of Monessen High School and Waynesburg College,Mr. Currie was a retired school teacher,having taught at Charleroi High School. He coached football at Monessen High School,then retired as a coach for Charleroi High School,where he had been football coach for 32 years. He received many awards,including Coach of the Year honors in the Mon Valley Conference 10 times and was cited by the Mon Valley Sportswriters-Sportscasters Association,Pittsburgh Dapper Dan Club and Scholastic Magazine for his contributions to athletics.  He was also honored as a member of the Charleroi Football Hall of Fame. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church,Belle Vernon.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Willis Currie,and a sister Ruth Zeiler. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Banks Currie;one son and daughter-in-law,James and Patti Currie of Speers Hill,one daughter and son-in-law,Susan and Robert Brown of Circleville,Ohio;and three grandchildren,Chris and Beth Currie and Jennifer Currie. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home Inc.,226 Fallowfield Ave.,Charleroi.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church,Belle Vernon.  Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Arrangements are being handled by the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home Inc.
