Obituary

While in Pittsburgh to attend the first ceremonial session of the Ancient Arabic Order,Nobles of the Mystic Shrine,in the Pittsburgh Esposition Music Hall Friday night Robert J. Linton of 218 State street, Belle Vernon,one of the most prominent business men of the Monongahela valley and a leading Mason,dropped dead in Wood street,near Fifth avenue,at 9:45 o'clock Friday night,February 25,1911.   He had resided in Belle Vernon for about 40 years,and was for 15 years superintendent of the R.C. Schmertz Glass Company,which is now operated by the American Window Glass Company.  He was also one of the first directors of the old McKeesport & Belle Vernon railroad,which was built in1889,and which has since been taken over as part of the Monongahela division of the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie railroad. Mr. Linton was a member of Belle Vernon Lodge,No. 653,F. and  A. M.,and of McKean Commandery,No. 80,Knights Templar.  He also belonged to the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection,Pittsburgh Consisroty and was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Belle Vernon. He was born in Ireland.  He was married twice,his first wife being Miss Caroline Doolittle,of Hudson,Ohio. Thirteen years ago he was married to Miss Mary Robeson of Bellvidere,N.J. One of Mr. Linton's daughters, Mrs. Clara Hamilton,was formerly a missionary to China,where she died.  A son, Robert Linton,is now a mining engineer in Mexico.  He leaves also his widow, a son,John and a daughter, Mary. Mr. Linton had been in poor health for some time.
