Robert Bobby G.Lambert Jr of 1001 Upper Crest Ave.;Charleroi;died Thursday;Dec.13;1984;at 1 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital following a four-year battle with cancer. He was 37. Mr.Lambert was born in Charleroi on Feb.16;1947;a son of Robert G.Lambert Sr.and June Evans Lambert;with whom he resided. His struggle with cancer began more than four years ago when a brain tumor was discovered. His story received some national attention when he received an unscheduled visit from Pittsburgh Steeler Jack Lambert while recovering from surgery in Presbyterian University Hospital. When the tumor was first discovered;doctors held little or no hope for Lambert’s recovery. Several operations;radiation treatments and chemotherapy followed. Then on Nov.13;1980;90 percent of the tumor was removed and Lambert returned to his parents’home to lead a normal life. A second brain tumor was discovered in September and prospects for its removal were less than encouraging. At that time doctors gave Lambert three to four weeks to live. His struggle did not end;however;until Dec.13;some three months later. A lifelong resident of Charleroi;he was a 1966 graduate of Charleroi Area High School. Mr.Lambert had been employed as a machinist at Corning Glass Works in Charleroi for 15 years. He also served 15 years with the National Guard and the U.S.Army Reserves in Oakdale. Protestant by faith;he was a member of the Slavic Club of North Charleroi and the Belgium Club and Russian Club;both of Charleroi. In addition to his parents he is survived by two sisters;Patricia L.Kurty of Monessen and Bonnie J.Bailey of Charleroi;his maternal grandparents;Joseph and Fannie Evans of Charleroi;and several aunts;uncles;cousins;nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at his family residence;1001 Upper Crest Ave.;on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday;Dec.17;at 1 p.m. in the United Church of Christ;Tenth Street and Upper Crest Avenue;with the Rev.Mel Hileman officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
