Obituary

Robert E. Bob Whitelaw, 74, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of North Belle Vernon, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008. Before moving to Florida to be with his family, he lived in Pahrump, Nev. He was born in Belle Vernon on October 6, 1933, the son of the late Robert E. Whitelaw and Mary Jeffries Whitelaw. Bob retired as a captain from the Los Angeles City Fire Department in 1981. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War, and a life member of the North Belle Vernon Fire Department. His memberships also included the Westmoreland County Fire Chiefs Association, Belle Vernon American Legion Post No. 659, and Charleroi VFW Post No. 167. He is survived by his sister, Joanne (Byron) Weightman, of Fort Myers, brother-in-law, Stephen Labosh, of Charleroi, and nephews, R. Byron (Sandra) Weightman, Robert (Mary) Weightman, and niece, Valinda (Kevin) Truax, all of Fort Myers, great-nephew and nieces, and several cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Harriet Labosh. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the North Belle Vernon Fire Department, 535 Graham St., North Belle Vernon, on Friday, July 18, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Roy Lewis Whitelaw officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
