Robert E. Smith,70,of Collinsburg,died Wednesday,Oct. 30,1996,in the Mon Valley Hospital Inc. He was born in Monessen,June 5,1926,a son of the late James H. and Mabel (Aebi) Smith. Mr. Smith was employed at Fisher Body,from where he retired in 1982. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was the president of the Slovenian Singing Society of Collinsburg. He was a member of the West Newton VFW,the West Newton Moose and the Ukranian Raven Club of Monessen. He was Presbyterian by faith. Surviving are his wife, Mary E.(Erdos) Smith, a son and daughter-in-law,Robert and Kathleen Smith of Indian springs,Nev.,two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice and Frank Sorton of Collinsburg and Carol and Adam Sinko of Monessen; a brother,Noah Smith of Monessen,two sisters, Mrs. William (Hazel) Sirofchuck of Herminie and Mrs. Harold (Lucille) Brown of Belle Vernon;five grandchildren,eric Sorton,Sonya and Jason Sinko,and Jennifer and Amee Smith. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by a brother,Vernon C. Smith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the James C. Stump Funeral Home,Inc.,Sweeney Plan/Rostraver Township. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Kent Lighthall officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.
