Obituary

A Belle Vernon Area High School teacher was killed on Monday,April 7,1969,when his sports car crossed the medial divider on Route 51 near Perryopolis and crashed into another automobile. Robert E.Peffer,26,of Crestview Apartments,Sweeney Plan,Belle Vernon R.D.2,was prounounced dead at the scene by Fayette County Deputy Coroner Herman Blair of Perryopolis. According to State Police,Peffer was traveling north on Route 51 two miles north of Perryopolis when he lost control of his car. The vehicle spun,crossed the divider and struck a car driven by Dean P.Roberts,20,of 15 Federal St.,Perryopolis. The accident occurred at 4:45 p.m. Roberts,who like Peffer,was alone in his car,suffered bruises of the head and cuts. Damage to the Peffer car was estimated at $800 and to Roberts' car $1,400. Peffer had taught chemistry for the past five years at Belle Vernon Area High School,going there after a year as a science teacher in Prince George County,Md. He was graduated from Charleroi High School in 1960 and from California State College in 1963. His widow,the former Donice Boston of Belle Vernon,is a teacher at Hempfield High School. Also surviving are his parents,Mr.and Mrs.Robert Peffer,716 Water St.,North Charleroi,and his grandmother,Mrs.Rose Shipley,also of North Charleroi. Friends will be received at the Harold R.Toner Funeral Home,Belle Vernon,after 7 p.m. April 8 and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. April 9. Service there Thursday,April 10,at 3 p.m. with the Rev.Robert Laing,officiating. Interment,Belle Vernon Cemetery. Harold R.Toner is funeral director.
