Robert D. Smith; 78; of Monessen; died Wednesday; Feb. 1; 2006; in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born June 25; 1927; in Monessen; the son of the late William Smith and Jean Ferguson Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and an employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; Monessen Plant. Mr. Smith was an avid sports fan and followed all Monessen High School athletics. Surviving are two sons; William H. Smith; of Kingston; N.Y.; and Timothy Smith; of Monessen; two grandchildren; Kristen and Patrick Smith; of Kingston; N.Y.; a sister; Jean Dyky; of Monessen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife; Patricia Klein Smith; and a sister; Ruth Moeller. Friends will be received at the RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC.; 1209 Grand Blvd.; Monessen; a Golden Rule Funeral Home; from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday; Feb. 7 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
