Robert C. Rab Hughes; 91; of Rostraver Township; died Thursday; May 10; 2007; in the Harmon House; Mt. Pleasant. Born in Dunbar on July 8; 1915; he was the son of the late Charles and Ida Bryner Hughes. Rab was the youngest of 10 children. As a young man; he was competitive in football and basketball at Donora High School; where he played halfback for the legendary Jimmy Russell in 1934. He worked at U.S. Steel; Donora Works for 32 years and then at Westinghouse at Waltz Mills in Madison for 15 years. He had a vivid memory and loved to talk about football and his family ancestry. He is survived by two sons; Joseph Hughes; of Elkins; W.Va.; and James Hughes and wife Sheila; of New Stanton; a daughter; Ellen Mackey and husband Bill; of Scottdale; one sister; Mildred Gibson; 94; of Rostraver Township; 10 grandchildren; Tammy; Amy; Chris; John; April; Jessie; Michael; Matthew; Chelsey and Angelo; and numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife; Virginia Mae Zollars; in 1997; a daughter; Nancy; in 1973; and a son; Richard; in 1999. The family will receive friends for a memorial gathering on Wednesday; May 16; 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m.; followed by a Memorial Service at 8 p.m. in the JAMES C.
