A well known Monessen resident and Pittsburgh Steel Co.official,Richard M. Bow,died Saturday night, Nov. 30,1957 at his home at 36 Aliquippa Ave. He was 54. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Bow, he was born in McKeesport but lived most of his life in Monessen. At the time of his death,he was superintendent of the industrial relations department of the Monessen plant of Pittsburgh Steel Co.,a position he held since the department was created in 1937. Mr. Bow was associated with Pittsburgh Steel for 40 years,beginning as a checker in 1917 while still a student at Monessen High School. Following his graduation in 1922,he accepted a position as a store clerk with the firm. He later became assistant paymaster and chief timekeeper in the accounting department. He was also active in civic affairs. He was a member of the executive board of the Westmoreland-Fayette Council,Boy Scouts of America; served on the membership and finance committees of the Chamber of Commerce, and was president of the advisory board of the Salvation Army until he resigned because of ill health last January. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Mr. Bow also belonged to Monessen Elks Lodge 773 and Pittsburgh Athletic Association. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eloise Beery Bow; two daughters, Gwendolyn, a student at Lynchburg School, Lynchburg, Va.,and Nancy, at home; a son,Pfc.Richard W. Bow,stationed with the Marines on Okinawa,and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Vera) Neid of Belle Vernon and Mrs. Merle (Helen) Burrows of Mt. Lebanon. Friends are being received at the Harper Funeral Home,Sixth St.,and McKee Ave.,Monessen from 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday,Dec.4,at 2 p.m. from the funeral home with the Rev. Vernon Bowers,pastor of the First Christian Church,Monessen, in charge. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Harry G. Harper, funeral director.
