Obituary

Richard Johns,aged 81 years,a well-known resident of Dunlevy for the past thirty years,died in his home early Saturday morning,April 20,at 12:30 o'clock following a lingering illness. Mr.Johns had been declining in health for several years but was active until last October,since which time he has been confined to his home. Mr.Johns was born in Redruth,England,March 4,1848. He came to America at an early age and settled in this valley. He is known throughout this section,having been a member of the Coal Valley I.O.O.F.Lodge for the past fifty years. He was probably the oldest Odd Fellow in this section of the state. Mr.Johns also was a member of the Encampment,Iris Rebekah Lodge,No.299,of Charleroi and of the United Brethern Church,Dunlevy. There survive one daughter,Miss Mabel Johns at home,one brother,James P.Johns,of Charleroi,and two sisters,Mrs.Elizabeth Caldwell,London,England and Mrs.Margaret Welch,Hillford,England. Funeral services will be held in the United Brethren Church,Dunlevy,Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with interment following in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
