Obituary

Reno R. Moncini, 91, of Monessen, died Sunday, May 1, 2011, in the Washington Hospital. He was born in Monessen on Dec. 4, 1919, the son of the late Arturo and Maria (Toci) Moncini. Mr. Moncini was a lifelong resident of Monessen, and a 1937 graduate of Monessen High School. Reno was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who loved to sing, garden, and play golf. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in the European and Pacific Theater. Mr. Moncini was a partner with his father and brother Arthur at A. Moncini & Sons Distributing in Monessen. After retiring from the distributorship, he worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue in the inheritance department in Pittsburgh. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and a 62-year member of the church choirs. He was also a member of the Epiphany Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus 954, Italian-American Heritage Society, American Legion Post 28, and a life member of the Italian Society of Mutual Aid, Sons of Italy, and Belle Vernon Musical Society. Mr. Moncini was an avid musician, having played clarinet in the high school band and orchestra, and played in numerous bands and civic organizations. He was a charter member of the Valley Chordsmen and, at the present, its oldest barber shopper. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rene (Comoglio) Moncini, a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and James Harris, of Deep Creek Lake, Md., a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur J. and Susan Moncini, of Belle Vernon, three grandchildren, Laura Moncini, Carlin Howe and Ryan (Shannon) Moncini, five great-grandchildren, Morgan and Anthony Coccari, Dominic, Ariana, and Emma Moncini, and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Guido and Arthur Moncini Jr., a sister, Nellie (Moncini) Dreucci, and a niece, Marjorie (Moncini) Dellamalva, who grew up in the family home. Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 3, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen, (724) 684-8750. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 4, beginning with a 9:30 a.m. blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family suggest memorials to the Monessen Meals on Wheels Program.
