Raymond E. Scales,92,of Monessen, died Wednesday,March 5,1997, in the Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. Born in Elizabeth Township,he is a son of the late Elmer and Edith Lawton Scales. Mr. Scales had been employed for U.S. Steel as a millwright before retiring. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Monessen,the Monessen Lodge No. 38 F&AM of Monessen and the AARP. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Crawford Scales,and a sister, Elizabeth Sterner. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law,Elizabeth Jean and Donald Makovich;one granddaughter, Kathleen Jean White; two great-grandsons, Nathan and Joseph White and one brother and sister-in-law,Richard H. and Lorraine Scales of Elizabeth. Friends will be received at the Rhome Funeral Home Inc.,1209 Grand Blvd.,Monessen,on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Gawlas officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 7 p.m. The Rhome Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
