Obituary

Raymond D.Popp Sr.of 509 Fourth St.,New Eagle,died Sunday,Dec.25,1988,in Mon Valley Hospital. He was 82. Mr.Popp was born Nov.19,1906,in Rostraver Township,a son of the late John and Lydia Brown Popp. He was a member of Riverview Baptist Church,New Eagle. Mr.Popp retired in 1971 as a superintendent for American Bridge Company,a subsidiary of the U.S.Steel Corp. In 1987 he received his 50-year pin frm Local No.3 of the United Ironworkers. A resident of New Eagle since 1955,he was preceded in death by his first wife,Florence Winstone Popp,three sisters,Anna Elder,Lila Slavania and Mildred Green,four brothers,Walter,John,Howard and Roy Popp,and by two infant sons,Roy and Wendy. Survivors include his wife,Glenna Ross Popp,two sons,Raymond D.popp Jr. and Blaine W.Popp,both of Pittsburgh,one daughter,Mrs.Vaughn (Debra) Gilbert of Elizabeth Township,two stepsons,Lynn Wilson of Columbus,Ohio,and Michael Wilson of New Eagle,two stepdaughters,Mrs.Howard (Debby) Pegram of Monongahela and Cindy Wilson of Philadelphia,one sister,Devona Hornak of Belle Vernon R.D.4 and six grandchildren. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where services will be held Wednesday,Dec.28,1988,at 1 p.m. with the Rev.Nevin J.Werron,pastor of Riverview Baptist Church of New eagle,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
